PEERS AND TEACHERS


After doing my pitch to my class and teachers, I was given some quick and simple feedback based on my ideas and how I can improve in order to fulfil the brief best. For example, I need to focus on finding concrete examples of intertextuality that I can add to my pitch and my magazine. Lots of my peers enjoyed the idea of Pilates and the 'clean girl' trend - this information I can use as market research and ensure that I can appeal to my audience and provide content that they will enjoy.

Initial Ideas NEA

 Initial Ideas


I used Pinterest to collate a mood board for each of my magazine ideas. 

For my first one - I chose to do a very clean and calming aesthetic, as this is currently trending, with the 'clean girl aesthetic'. This will appeal to my 16 - 25 audience as it will be similar to other content that they are seeing online and interacting with. I think I will go for mainly pastel colours or I will go in the other direction and chose some bright ones (as this is more different and could be seem more exciting to my audience). 
For my second magazine - I have chosen a very chic tennis style, with lots of greens and blues. It will be sort of a throwback (and intertextual link) to the 2024 film 'Challengers' which caused the uprising of 'tennis chic'. I will perhaps use other props like bags or running trainers to build the narrative for my magazine. This will be appealing to a ABC1 market, as tennis (and tennis clubs) are seen as more trendy for upper class young people.

Using photoshop, I created a cover which adheres to the conventions that Guardian newspaper cover would. I based my story on the killer of Ed Gein - and tried to use catchy headlines which would be appealing for an ABC1 demographic. For the other stories, I based them on the zeitgeist- for example the budget that labour was starting around the end of 2025/ start of 2026. I used a wine advert - as this will be exciting for my middle aged demographic and also represents how the Guardian sometimes will use advertising for their funding.

I created a timeline about how music videos and technology have changed over time. I researched the information and then used Canva to create a simple to understand poster. This is useful for my NEA research as I may be doing a music video, and it is also beneficial for the music video aspect of the course.

BIG ISSUE cover


BIG ISSUE


I created a Big Issue cover, which is relevant to today's society - using Adobe Photoshop. I used the celebrity of Amanda Seyfried, as she is starring in the upcoming film of the Housemaid, which came out on Boxing Day 2025. This means that I am reflecting the social zeitgeist within my product, it also means that my audience - who are culturally aware - will understand the references and gain gratification.I chose a red background as it connotes danger and creates a sense of alarm in the audience and this also links to Amanda's character who she played in The Housemaid. I used this task to practice my Photoshop skills and I think it really helped me to work on the text / layout aspect of photoshop.

Beauty Advert

 




BEUATY ADVERT


I created a beauty advert for a Gucci Perfume bottle using Adobe photoshop. I decided to use a pink, feminine colour scheme as the target demographic for the product itself is towards women (and pink is stereotypically seen as a feminine colour). I also used cut outs of different flowers as I wanted to almost create the idea that the perfume is coming out of the bottle – perhaps hinting that the scent is out of this world.  I also featured the logo of the Gucci brand to make the advert simple and recognisible for my audience, connoting the idea of value transference.
